Core Principles
We operate at the intersection of Ukraine’s new environmental policy and European standards, focusing on the practical implementation of legislative reforms in the field of waste management. Our work is grounded in the new national Waste Management Law and the Waste Management Plan approved until 2033. These documents outline the principles that guide our approach: the waste management hierarchy, extended producer responsibility, waste prevention, and prioritizing recycling over landfill.
We believe that legal frameworks must serve as the foundation for Ukraine’s environmental modernization. That is why we treat their implementation not as a formality, but as a tool for systemic transformation. We also draw inspiration from the experience of EU countries that have recently undergone similar reforms and whose policies Ukraine is gradually aligning with as part of its European integration commitments.
Another core principle is promoting systematic and coordinated efforts to achieve the sustainable and green recovery of Ukraine. Our mission is to ensure that the country’s recovery and development are grounded in the principles of a green economy and low-carbon growth, in line with the European Green Deal and relevant directives. One of the most significant initiatives in this area is the *Green Recovery Platform (посилання)*, spearheaded by the United Nations Environment Programme, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
Our third core principle is advocating for environmental justice. We firmly believe that the right to a safe and healthy environment is an inalienable right of every Ukrainian. To that end, we are actively raising awareness within the international community about the aggressor state's accountability for environmental crimes. Our work focuses on monitoring and documenting environmental damages to ensure the aggressor is held accountable for the harm inflicted.
